Rachel Tan

ABRSM Grade 8 practical, Grade 5 theory

Currently studying for Diploma and Grade 6-8 theory

I  have been playing the piano since I was young. I currently have four  students under me learning piano. Playing the piano is my passion and I  hope to impart it to my students. Through piano playing, children can enjoy the benefits of better brain performance, creativity, vision, and perseverance.

Patient  and soft spoken. I am methodical in my teaching approach and I am good  with children and adults. My strength lies in helping the student to  cultivate strong fundamentals (playing technique, reading notes, musical  expression, theory, ear training) by progressing in all aspects every  lesson. We then move on to cover a wider repertoire of pieces across  different genres to learn more complex piano skills.

  • Grade 8 Piano and Theory (ABRSM, U.K.)

  • Currently pursuing diploma

  • I have about 5 years of teaching experience and I am a full time piano teacher. I have taught students that range from 5 to 61 years old and I teach in students house and also in my own home studio.

  • I am a patient and motivating piano teacher that believes in making lessons engaging. Hence when teaching young students,I try to makes classes lively where we not only play pieces and do theory, but we also use props, stories, stickers and colors to learn.

  • This helps my young students remain interested while boosting their skills and knowledge at the same time.

  • For students that are older, we focus on the exam pieces as there is a need to excel in the piano exams.

  • But In lessons we also try to play songs of different repertoires, that are out of the exam pieces and my students tend to find this variety interesting and this helps increase their exposure and skills as well. So in general, my students look forward to having lessons and tend to stay with me for the Long term

Maurice Tan

  • Grade 8 Practical with Distinction (ABRSM, U.K)

  • 2 years of teaching

  • Music is my passion and it is a joy when I am able to nurture the appreciation and sensitivity of music in others

  • I began my journey in music as an adult beginner and obtained ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction in just one and a half years of committed learning and practice

  • Having had this experience, I have specialized myself into intelligently and effectively teaching youths and adult beginners to be able to progress at an accelerated pace

  • In my teaching, i take emphasis in simplifying musical concepts and breaking down the complexities of piano technique into bite size bits, which serve as enablers to facilitate the creation of a positive learning cycle through the students development of competencies and confidence

  • With the employment of an effective practice routine that i have developed over the years, many of my beginner students have been able to start playing the pieces they like after just a few lessons

  • Teaching music through pieces that my students are enthusiastic about is quintessential to my approach as I have found this to be an effective way to maintain their interest that has often been spoiled by rigid and strict methodologies

  • Through this, the lessons remain student-centric and always has a higher chance of being a good and lasting match
