What is your teaching philosophy?

  • The best teacher is able to embrace individual interest and engage the student in a fun and discipline way.

  • The long-term goal for my student is to lay a good foundation of playing skills, building up his/her musicianship, learning in a fun and discipline environment.

  • I want to help my students to develop good musicianship and skills of playing.

  • As a teacher, I help student to solve his/her learning difficulties in his/her own pace.

Student's Achievement - Exam result

  • Theory: I have trained young children below age 8 to finish their Grade 5 Music Theory in a short period of time and they all got Distinctions or the least Merits! Besides, I teach Music Theory Grade 6 and above and they passed with either Merits or Distinction.

  • Practical: I have prepared young students to attend their first Grade One Piano Exam at the age of five or six years old, they got Distinction! For intermediate and advanced levels, I have trained some talented young students and they finished their Grade Eight Piano Exam at the age of twelve with at least a Merit.

How is your piano learning journey like?

  • Like many musicians do, I started piano lessons when I was 6 years old. My parents are very supportive that they provide physically and mentally support throughout my incredible musical learning journey. Everyone can learn to play piano regardless of their age or ability, but only with an excellent education and a willingness to practice are the key points to make you accomplish this wonderful piano learning journey.

  • I am a self-disciplined, perseverance and downright determination person, I practice piano because I enjoy doing it. I know what I want to achieve in this life-long journey, in order to become a well-rounded piano educator and spread the knowledge to the next generations.

  • In 2013, I received the Bachelor's Degree with First Class Honours in Music Education from Sultan Idris Education University of Malaysia where I was in the Dean's list throughout my 4-year courses and ranked #1 of class of 2009 under the guidance of Mr. Jamie Smith, who served as ABRSM coordinator of Malaysia. I was fortunate enough to have many great lecturers who gave me lots of musical insights in piano playing, choir, instrumental ensemble, composition, arranging, conducting and so on! I grabbed on this golden opportunity to perform on the stage as a soloist or in a group setting.

  • In 2016, I received the Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy and Performance from University of Science Malaysia where I was awarded a scholarship to The University of Adelaide under the guidance of renowned Stephen Whittington. This is where I studied the psychology of music, learning theories, history of piano, piano pedagogy and so on! Lesson planning has become part of my teaching journey, I always cater the lessons to the needs and learning styles of every of my students.

  • In 2018 and 2019, I received the Diploma in Piano Performance from Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Licentiate Trinity London College in Piano Recital with Distinction,

  • Grade 8 flute qualification and certification of MOE Music Instructor.

  • In 2020, there will be a teachers’ workshop which I am going to organise in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. In addition, finishing my Fellowship Trinity London College in Piano Recital will be one of my new year’s resolutions!
